First Time Blog Tour

Tour Schedule

Welcome to the blog tour for First Time: The Legend of Garison Fitch by Samuel Ben White! I have an excerpt of the book for you today, so be sure to check that out. Also, the link to the rest of the tour is under the banner, so be sure to check out all the other stops as well.

"What if history didn't happen that way ... the first time?"

Garison Fitch was one of the most revered scientists in the Soviet Americas until he left fame behind to work on a secret project in his log cabin in the mountains of Marx.

But something went wrong. Instead of traveling interdimentionally, Garison has traveled through time ... twice.

Now, he's in something called "The United States of America" and a woman he's never met before is calling herself his wife. It it a hoax? Or, has he somehow changed history?

If so, can he return the world to what he believes is "normal", or must he live in this strange world he created?

Also Part of the Series:

Saving Time

Two years ago Garison Fitch traveled through time and rewrote history. An accident in the eighteenth century created a whole new world, and even gave Garison a wife he had never met before. Now, he’s got a daughter and he’s coming to enjoy this world he created. Until he’s attacked by men masquerading as Indians, and a funeral procession from out of the past enlists his help, and a tree grows from sappling to full-grown in a matter of minutes, threatening his daughter’s very life. Time itself is unraveling and Garison’s trips through time seem to be the cause. Garison must go back in time once again and keep himself from making the original trip that started the problem. But he can’t use his time machine to go back. How does one sew up a rip in time?

Lost Time

Jason Kerrigan and Brownwyn Dalmouth are pilots with the Republic of Texas Army Air Corps. A world war is going on and bombs have just brought an end to Crockett Air Field in south Texas. Jason and Bronwyn, though, are called away from the battle to be test pilots for a new aircraft that-they're told-will bring the war to an end. The experimental craft lives up to expectations in early tests, but then it lands them somewhere it never should have sent them. Another place? Another time? Another dimension? Somehow, they've taken a trip to the future and changed the past. Or did they? The answer to their change of reality may be known to a Justice of the Peace in Colorado named Garison Fitch. To figure it out, though, Garison may have to team up with his least favorite person: Bat Garrett.

Excerpt:

He was disturbed from his reverie by a voice saying, "Feet up."
It took a moment for the voice to register on him at all and he raised his head with a, "Huh?"
The sun was behind the source of the voice and cast a halo through the speaker's blonde hair and placed her entirely in silhouette.  With a broom, she repeated in a pleasant tone, "Feet up.  I'm trying to sweep."
"Uh, OK," Garison mumbled as he lifted his feet.  She stepped a bit to his left just then and he got a look at her face.  It was a pretty face, with pale, blemish free skin and deep green eyes.  She wore a smile that was pleasant to look at and warming in its touch.
She said, "I don't believe I've seen you around here, Stranger."
"Uh, no.  I'm from—I'm from out of town."
She looked at him and smiled genuinely.  She asked, "Whereabouts?  We don't get many visitors around here."
"La Plata Canyon," he replied instinctively.
She thought a moment, then told him, "I've never heard of it.  Is it near Boston? or down in the Carolinas?"
"Neither, really," Garison replied with a sigh.  Finally, she had mentioned places he had heard of, though he knew the Carolinas as Stalinland.  "Carolinas" was a name belonging to the old British Americas.  Had he perhaps landed in an alternate reality where the British Americas hadn't fallen to the Russians?  That still wouldn't explain the lack of telephones, he thought sullenly.  To finish the answer to her question, he said, "It's out in Marx—on the other side of the Rocky Mountains from Cherry Creek."
She shrugged and shook her head, "I'm afraid I've never heard of those places.  And here I thought I knew my geography quite well.  What with studying maps and—" she stopped as if she had been about to say something she would rather not be known.
It suddenly occurred to Garison to ask, "Tell me something, why are you talking to me?"  She looked unreasonably hurt by the question and he quickly added, "I mean, no one else will.  How come?"
"How come they won't or how come I will?"
"Either.  Be kind of nice to have an answer to something, even that."

Zeus and the Thunderbolt of Doom (Book 1)

After pulling a magical thunderbolt from a stone, ten-year-old Zeus goes on the adventure of a lifetime in this thrilling start to a brand-new series! The terrible Titans--merciless giants who enjoy snacking on humans--have dominated the earth and put the world into chaos. But their rule is about to be put to the test as a group of young Olympians discover their powers and prepare to righteously rule the universe....

Ten-year-old Zeus is mystified (and super-annoyed) by the fact that he keeps getting hit by lightening. Every. Single. Year. He also longs for adventure, as he has never been far from the cave where he grew up.

Zeus gets his wish--and a lot more than he bargained for--when he is kidnapped by dangerous, giant Titans! In self-defense, he grabs the first thing he sees--an actual thunderbolt he pulls from a stone that is covered in mysterious markings. Zeus is the only one who can decipher the markings, and sets off on a quest to rescue his youthful fellow Olympians from the evil Cronus. Armed with his trusty thunderbolt (named Bolt, of course), Zeus is on an adventure of a lifetime--and a journey to fulfill his destiny as King of the Gods.

Hades and the Helm of Darkness (Book 3 coming April 2013)

The Heroes in Training are entering the Underworld—if Hades can conquer his canine fears, that is.

The Underworld usually isn’t really meant to be a fun place—but tell that to Hades! He loves the dark and the stinky smell of sulfur. However, there is one thing that Hades is not a fan of: dogs. And when Zeus and his fellow Olympians encounter Cerberus—a snarling, three-headed dog—Hades must conquer his fears and tame the hound so everyone can continue into the Underworld and deposit their Titan prisoner, Oceanus, back where he belongs!

But with magical water that causes forgetfulness, hot beds of lava, and another epic battle with two more Titans standing in their way, will Zeus and his heroes make it out of the Underworld with everyone intact?

It was a great job.

I illustrated my first published children's book in 1992 and soon began illustrating full time. I began completing manuscripts and mailing them out to publishers in the early 1990s. In 1996, I sold my first two manuscripts -- Boo Who? A Spooky Lift-the-Flap Book (Scholastic) and Pen Pals (Grosset & Dunlap). Yippee!

Now I write full time and have written and/or illustrated over 130 children's books. Creating books that entertain, inform, and interest children (and me) is a fabulous job that I truly love.

On their journey, the fun-loving double-trouble duo quickly discover they are caught up in the middle of their favorite fairy tales.

Book 2

Book 2: Into the Forest and Down the Tower (Rapunzel)

What Charlie needs is something that can only be found in their magical land. It can’t be given to them; they have to solves riddles and discover the answers themselves. Book 3

Book 3: Off to Camp and Discovering Art (King Arthur)

Their parents are able to plan a weekend camping trip towards the end of summer. The girls are happy for the visit, but sad to think they can’t go through the mirror this year on another adventure. They discover the magic is not only within the mirror, but within themselves when they are together. Merlin the magician shows up to take them on their quest to help Arthur find his true identity and his place in Camelot.

Review of Through the Mirror and Into Snow:

Valerie and Samantha are great friends. They love to spend time finding adventures, and their creativity never ends. When they spot a random possum one day, they decide they have to chase after it. This leads to the discovery of a strange mirror, and this mirror leads to an amazing world where all the fairy tales they only read about come true. When the girls pass through the mirror they meet a young girl named Snow, and Valerie and Samantha quickly realize who this girl really is. As they try to help Snow, the girls also meet several other fairy tale characters. They soon have the adventure of a lifetime!

This book had a super cute concept. I loved the idea of encountering fairy tales in real life. Valerie and Samantha were fun, and I think younger girls would find them very relatable. I enjoyed their fearlessness and resourcefulness. Those are awesome things for young girls to read about. The mishmash of stories was also really fun. It was a fun concept, and I liked the way they interacted together (both the story characters with each other and the characters with Valerie and Samantha).

One thing that kind of took me out of the story was the narrator. The story was told by a gnome as a narrator, but it was kind of jolting when he would insert himself into the story. This took me out of it a bit. However, I'm not sure that will be a problem for everyone. I think it won't read as awkward especially for younger readers. Overall though I thought it was a really fun book. I look forward to reading the next two books as well. I think young girls with a thirst for adventure and a love of fairy tales will definitely enjoy these books. They are age appropriate and quick to read. This was an enjoyable book, and I am ready to read the next one.

Book provided for review.

Crossroads Excerpt:

He held me gently with both of his arms and wings this time.  All I needed was his touch, for him to hold me that way; it made all the difference in the world.  I was safe again.  Without thought, I turned toward him.  The look in his eyes was so tempting, telling me that he wanted me too.  I knew it was impossible for him to want and need me the same way, but his eyes told me something else. The depth of my yearning and what I wanted to do at this very moment was undeniable.
I leaned toward him and tenderly placed a kiss on his supple lips to thank him.  It was an innocent kiss.  What was the harm in just one small kiss?  I was extremely surprised that he didn’t push me away.  I was even more surprised at myself.  I was never the type to make the first move.
“Thank you for saving me,” I whispered, looking straight into his soulful eyes, as something came over me.  Uncontrollable heat ran through my body.  He was right.  It was dangerous, but it was me who couldn’t control myself.  His eyes gave me permission to continue, so I gave him another kiss, but slower and longer this time.  He kissed me back, but with much hesitation.  His lips were warm and sweet like honeysuckle, just how I imagined they would be.  The warmth spread all over my body like a blazing fire.
Still holding me, he pulled me away with a sudden jerk, his eyes piercing into mine with anger.  His left hand was tightly wrung around my hair and the other gripping my shirt so I could feel the tightness from it.  Panting, wanting more of him, I forgot how to breathe, and so did he.  His eyes, still fierce with anger, gripped me even tighter as he slightly pushed and pulled me, fighting and uncertain of what he wanted to do.  Feeling petrified, I had to prepare myself for the consequence of my actions, for I knew I had crossed the line.

Purchase:

Excerpt:

As she walked back to the ridge of the roof, Bach’s heart went with her. Someone had tried to hurt her. Tried to damage what belonged to him, and who he belonged to.
He started to feel dizzy from the volumes of strangle weed planted in the front of her house.
“Thank you so much for coming and for the guitar. It’s perfect.” She gave it back to him.
“No, it is yours, Wisteria.” He refused to take it. “Do you not like it?”
“No, I love it. It’s so beautiful.”
“Then keep it.” He kissed her neck. Knowing—hoping—his touch would soothe her pain, but he hadn’t come here to comfort her.
“Bach.” She used her instrument as a shield as she moved away from him. “It’s a bad idea. You won’t understand.”
“You are right. I do not get why you would refuse something you apparently love,” he whispered while rubbing her forearms and taking in her scent.
“If I accept your kindness, then I’ll have to face the consequences. I don’t know if I can face those.”
“You cannot face accepting my kindness, or is it accepting me that you cannot face?”
“Um…?”
“Tell me that you do not feel the same,” he whispered. “That the moment you first saw me that I did not get inside your head. Tell me that you do not think about me all of the time when we are not together?”
The dark-eyed girl did not answer.
Wishing he could will her to speak, he pressed her against his chest. Briefly, he noticed a black spot at the base of her neck, where he had kissed her, and then it was gone. “Okay, Wisteria. Then tell me that you want me to leave, and that you do not care if you never ever see me again.” He felt like someone else was speaking for him, once again. The questions became pointless as he found himself still planting kisses along her neck and the sides of her face.
“I can’t tell you that, Bach,” she replied softly, her voice breaking. “Because it’s not true.” She wrapped her arms around him and held him tightly.
Desperately wanting to kiss her luscious-looking lips, he leaned into her.
Wisteria reached up to him, tugging his head down as she stood on the very tips of her toes, seemingly just as eager to taste his lips.
“Wisteria, I cannot.” He broke away before it happened. “I do not want this.”
* * * * *
Wrapping her arms around herself, she moved away from him. Once again, humiliated and feeling foolish. “Goodnight, Bach!” She strode angrily to the side of the roof in order to climb down.
He grabbed her and held her back
The guy came here just to tease her, yet again! Didn’t he know he was hurting her? Didn’t he care? “I’m tired of all this nonsense. I’m actually tired and need some sleep. I’m done with this. All of this!” She should’ve left the roof when she saw him appear. “Let go, so I can go.”
“Wisteria, it is not that.” Exhaling heavily, he released her. “My people could kill you if they knew I wanted you.”
This wasn’t at all what she’d expected him to say. “What?”
“I am in love with you. I do not know why, but I am. And it is selfish, because I just want you for myself.” Sadness filled his eyes as he spoke.
“Why would they do that to me?”
“Because you are human and because we see humans as Terran, or dirt people.”
“And you believe that too? So why are you here, living among us, if we’re so disgusting?”
“You are not disgusting. You are beautiful.” Rubbing his temples, he seemed troubled and bewildered. “I came to Terra as a rite of passage. To be considered a man, to take a journey and experience the wild.”
“The wild?”
“I chose Terra, or Earth, because I came here as a child. Your people treated me so badly in the past. When I learned about the Nero disease, I wanted to see your world.” He paused. “You were right when you said there was something wrong with me.”
“Bach, it cannot be that bad.” Stepping up to him, she stroked her fingers along his biceps.
The sweet motion made him smile at her, but he still looked distressed.
“Like about Garfield, you let him live with you. And now you’re here with me.”
“You are not like the rest.”
“Neither are you. You’re not so cold and cruel like Enric or patronizing like Felip. They think they’re better than us. You just hate people because you’re a jerk, Bach.”
“Ha.” Bach laughed. “A jerk?”
“You’re a big jerk.” As the final word rolled from her lips, he kissed her.
She was stunned for a second. His lips tasted like a strange, tantalizing spice.
He squeezed her against his larger frame and rested his right hand on the small of her back.
She fidgeted, unsure about what to do with her hands. She tried to kiss him back, but she struggled because she was so short.

Finding the Baby Jesus Book Blast

Welcome to the book blast for Finding the Baby Jesus by Kimball Fisher!

After being forced to wear lederhosen for the annual holiday card picture, twelve-year-old Chris thinks that the least his parents can do is get him the Tony Hawk skateboard he wants for Christmas. But when he recovers the hand-carved Baby Jesus that everyone thought had been destroyed in a fire the year his Grandma died, Chris realizes that some gifts are even more important than skateboards.

When the author had to discontinue a cherished tradition of reading Christmas stories out loud with his family and holiday guests each week in December, he wrote Finding the Baby Jesus. He had been unable to locate enough meaningful stories that could be read in a single sitting with wiggly children.

Imperfectly Beautiful Book Blast

Welcome to the book blast for Imperfectly Beautiful by Diony George!

At 1:30 am, in New York City, Regan Wright is ripped out of a sound sleep with a jolt - her heart thuds in her ears and her face feels flushed. Straining to hear anything out of the ordinary, she fumbles to turn on the bedside lamp. Nothing seems out of place. Suddenly her stomach twists in knots - it's her identical twin, Rebecca. Something is terribly wrong...

Though twins, Rebecca and Regan couldn't be more different.

Independent and outspoken, Regan chose a high-profile career as a fashion designer in New York City. Despite her hard-earned success, Regan’s become disillusioned by the glamour and the glitz. She’s tired of coming home to a lonely penthouse apartment welcomed only by her cat and has all but given up on ever finding “Mr. Right.”

Steady and reliable, Rebecca chose to be a wife and stay-at-home mom. From the very first moment she met James Conrad—tall and muscular with eyes as blue as a cloudless sky—she was captivated. Married and four children later, Rebecca’s life is not what she expected. Her marriage has lost its shine and her sweet babies have become challenging and often unappreciative children.

Both Rebecca and Regan must discover, a higher power has the answers to what matters most, but when a serial killer strikes nearby, and his victims look eerily similar to the twins, will it be too late?

Jeremy's Christmas Journey Blog Tour

Welcome to the blog tour for Jeremy's Christmas Journey by Scott A. Johnson!

For Jeremy, Christmas is just another reminder that he’ll never be able to enjoy the things that come so easily to other children. Then one night he has a dream that will change everything. Accompanied by stirring music, this story of finding faith and discovering the power of the Master Healer is sure to be cherished at Christmastime and all year long.

Meet the Author:
Scott Johnson spent most of his childhood in Orem, Utah, where he gained a love for creative writing. Recognizing his potential at a young age, his teachers and family encouraged him to explore his developing writing talents.
Scott continued to craft imaginative and original stories through his teenage years and served as a yearbook writer and photographer in High School. He published his first book, Nutrition: A Word of  Wisdom, in 2009, and has published more than 175 editorial pieces in various online publications.
Scott, his wife and four children reside in Utah County where they enjoy the mountains and outdoors. Scott is regularly asked by his children to share an original story, which he gladly obliges.

Review:

Jeremy has had an unfortunate life. Due to a car accident when he was a toddler, Jeremy is no longer able to walk. There is no medical reason why which proves to be even more of a hardship for Jeremy. While his parents have great faith that he will walk again, Jeremy cannot see why they believe this. They cling to their religion while Jeremy questions if Jesus Christ was even real. Then one night he has a dream, one in which he is exposed to some amazing things that will change his beliefs and life forever.

There are two parts of this book that wind together to make an amazing experience. The first is Jeremy's story. I felt bad for Jeremy because I know he had a very difficult life. I don't blame him one bit for having a hard time with something his parents believed in so strongly but that he didn't feel. I think these are normal responses, especially for someone in Jeremy's circumstances. I did think he was a little repetitive in his complaining though. After a bit it came off more whiny than something that made me feel sympathy. Once his dream started this was not a problem at all though. The dream part was handled very well. It was so moving to see all these perspectives and to really get to feel what all these people felt. I thought that was really well done.

The part that wrapped it all together was the music. There are songs for each of the characters in Jeremy's dream that give testimony of the things they saw. The songs were so beautiful. I actually listened to them after I had read the story part, but they still had great impact. I think in the context of the story they'd be even more moving. This is a wonderful combination of story and music that are so touching together. They are able to move this beyond just a story to a great testimony. This would be beautiful to listen to any time of year, but I think it would be of most impact around Christmas and Easter. I really loved the story and music, and I think they will bring a wonderful spirit into your home.

Book provided for review.
